Great news and answer to prayer! Tehila will be doing some work with Villages of Hope in Zambia.
Villages of Hope – Africa (www.vohafrica.com) is a Canadian charitable organization bringing hope to children in need throughout Africa. They are currently located in six countries (Kenya, Burundi, Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe) and their programs provide education, nutrition, shelter, and healthcare to over 3000 orphans and vulnerable children. They provide shelter for children who don’t have a safe place to live.
One of their key priorities is child protection. They have a sound child protection policy which is developed by leaders within the organisation and reviewed every two years. They are committed to implementing this policy and all staff and children are aware of it and trained on its principles of how to keep children safe. They are also exemplary in the way they involve and listen to children in their care.
We met the Director of Villages of Hope, Zambia when we first arrived in the country in 2012. Recently he contacted us to ask if we would carry out a capacity building training for the organisation’s Child Protection Officers in Zambia.
Although everyone has a responsibility to keep children safe, all organisations should have a named focal person or a Child Protection Officer, who is responsible for implementing the Child Protection Policy throughout the organisation. There are around 6 of these officers in Zambia who work across three ‘villages’ in Chongwe, Kitwe and Mongu. In September we will have the privilege of intensively learning from, working with and supporting them to increase their skills and knowledge in their critical role in Villages of Hope.
This is an exciting move for Tehila and one we are hugely grateful for.
Thanks once again for your support and prayers. Your giving is making a difference. Children will be safer.
