Exciting times

Hi all

Greetings from sunny , albeit a little windy Lusaka. Today has been a special day as we celebrated Thandiwe’s 3rd birthday. She was a little bewildered by the present opening at first, but quickly embraced it, asking Isla and Amba to help her. A momentous moment today is that we have received the application document for a commital order from the social welfare department. Once handed in, we just have to wait for a court hearing date! Exciting and another step forward in this incredible faith journey.

Tehila is having an exciting couple of weeks too!

Winnie and Obet were busy delivering Touch Talk to another group of children today. Touch Talk teaches children about child sexual abuse and equips them with four key messages to keep themselves safe. Its impact is huge across our church partners.

Last week we delivered an introductory training session to teachers at LICEF school in Lusaka. Thank you for the generous donation LICEF to our work and we look forward to ongoing work with you! The same week, Winnie and Obet carried out a presentation about Touch Talk to social work students at the university. An incredible 53 students put forward their names to volunteer for Tehila. amazing!

We are busy preparing for the launch of the SCAR (Samalani Children at Risk) Network in August. Samalani means ‘caring for’ in Nyanja. The purpose of the network is to enable churches and organisations who we have worked and partnered with over the last five years to come together as a collaborative group. The network will be a Christian church driven network delivering and implementing programmes to any organisations across the city and beyond.

Following an exploratory meeting in July, Platforms (geographically located clusters of churches and partners) met with Tehila to discuss the network name, operations and membership. (See above photos).

Today a consultation event took place with key representatives from each of these platforms and other people we have trained in the past. The network name, membership fee and structure agreed and in a weeks time membership forms will be ready to distribute for members to signup.

Tehila zambia is an equal member of the network but we will initially act as secretariat for the network as we establish a local coordination team. This is exciting.

We are most excited to see the commitment from the church and their willingness to exchange in the process of planning for the network.

We thank you once again for your ongoing support. We couldn’t do it without you.

Love the Tehila Team X
